Free Agent Bidding

The free agent bidding process will take place every week. Bids can be entered at any time after Tuesday 12 AM ET up until Wednesday 9 PM ET. The sales process will run at 9 PM Wednesday and rosters will be updated. The process will be blind bidding. Each team will be able to see the players who have been submitted, but they will not be able to see the bids. Bids will be processed just as in the auction. While the actual bid will be used to determine the player contract, the amount charged to a team's free agent budget will be the amount required to win the bid. The minimum bid is .1 and all bids will be entered in increments of .1.

Teams can submit as many free agents as desired, but each team will be limited to one purchase per week. Teams may designate each free agent bid to be included regardless of the order in which the players are processed, or to only include the bid only if the team has submitted no other bids for other players before this bid.

For each player submitted for bidding, the team must either designate a current roster player or a vacant roster position to be released. A team can submit bids on several players and select the same player to be released on each bid.

Players purchased for $0.3M or more will be signed to 2 year contract (remainder of current season plus next season) at the bid price. 2 yeas is the maximum length of any free agent contract. Salary rules for the second year of contract will be applicable to these players in the second year. Only players who have not been signed to a contract (either draft or bid free agency) can be signed as keeper eligible. Players who were drafted or previously acquired in bid free agency (by any team) may be purchased in bid free agency, but they will be free agents the next season regardless of the bid amount. (This is necessary to keep teams from releasing its own high priced players and then buying them back in free agency at a cheaper price.) The list of players for bidding will contain an indicator to show the player's keeper eligibility.

A team can select to bid on one of its own free agents that was previously picked up from the free agent pool during the Thursday-Saturday free selection process (any player on a team's roster who has not had an assigned salary from the draft or bid free agency) in order to sign the player to a multi-year contract. These players will show up on your form list of players to select for bidding, but they will not show up on other teams' lists. Bids on these players must be submitted prior to Wednesday 12 AM ET in order for other teams to know they have been put up for bid. Once you submit one of these players, he will immediately be removed from your roster. This player will not be returned to your roster even if he is not purchased.

Because of the great difference in time zones involved, it would not be fair to say that bid priority will be determined by the time they are submitted. Each bid will be have the same priority whether it is submitted Tuesday at 12:01 AM or Wednesday at 8:59 PM. The only thing that will be determined by the order of submittal will be each team's priorities. For each team, the first player submitted would be the first player submitted for the team. Teams with submittals will be ranked in a random order, and the first player on a teams' list will be submitted for bid. This bid will be considered the first bid for the player and will beat any other matching bids. All other bids for the player (that are either designated to be included regardless of the submittal order or are for the first available player on another team's list) will then be randomly ranked and compared to the first bid. These bids will processed just as in the original auction with the random ranking determining the order in which they are processed. This process will be continued for each of the randomly ranked teams. It will continue to loop through the team list until either all of the submitted bids are processed or each of the submitting teams has acquired one free agent.

Teams can pick up free agents with no charge to their free agent budget from Thursday 12 AM ET until Sunday 12 AM. These players will not be assigned a salary and can later be signed to a one or two year contract through the bidding process.
